Towel Day is commemorated every year on May 25 as a tribute to author Douglas Adams by his fans who carry a towel with them as described in Adams' 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' to celebrate the author and his works.

My first awareness of Douglas Adams was by way of his involvement with Doctor Who as writer of 'The Pirate Planet' and 'City Of Death' plus the partially filmed 'Shada' (not televised due to industry disputes) and later as script editor for Doctor Who. He is without a doubt best known for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

So how will you celebrate Towel Day this year? How will I? In years past I've handed out business cards (featuring the above art) to others I met walking the MA & PA Trail, shared 3 discs, one a CD with the first two parts of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy Audio Drama on it, plus 2 DVDs, one a Doctor Who story written by Douglas (Shada) and the other a copy of the pilot episode of Dirk Gently.

This year I believe I will celebrate DNA with an ongoing stream of introductions to his work, focusing on family, friends and maybe even a complete stranger or two. Is there such a thing as an incomplete stranger?

To introduce folks to some of Douglas' work I've created 2 web pages featuring excerpts for The Salmom of Doubt (read by Simon Jones) and put the URLs for both on the back of the card:

Towel Day was complete one year when I received an unexpected Tweet in response to one I'd sent to Douglas' daughter, Polly. So, how did you celebrate Towel Day? email: bill@wmiii.net
